Come, Bless God

This meditation is based on a passage for August 4, 2010 in the Daily Lectionary Year 2 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).

Text: Psalm 134

Reflection and Question: Among the shortest of all the psalms, this is also one of the most familiar. It serves naturally as a call to worship in evening prayers, or vespers, and probably has been used in this way far, far back in human history, even before it was written down, which itself was a good while ago. When I stand and recite it with my hands held high, I am one with all the faithful who have done exactly the same throughout history and with all those who will do the same after me. Together we give thanks to God in a blessing and pray, in turn, that God, the Creator of all, will bless us. How about memorizing this short evening prayer?
